Each registered domain has at least 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a particular hosting company. In this way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are lots of other records, for example A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you enter a domain name in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of a different service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means you can have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account with our company and you wish to switch either your site or your emails to another provider, it'll take you literally simply 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are maintained through our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not encounter any troubles if you decide to point your website or emails to another service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you can also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
