SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an email safety system, that is employed to confirm whether an email message is sent by a licensed server. Using SPF protection for a domain will prevent the faking of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this feature for a domain generates a specific record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP of the servers which are allowed to send e-mails from mailboxes under the domain. As soon as this record propagates globally, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Every time a new email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through checks if it originates from an official server. In the event it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but if it doesn't come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will mask an e-mail address and make it appear as if you are e-mailing spam. This approach is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

SPF protection can be enabled for any domain name hosted in a hosting account on our cloud hosting platform with no more than a couple of clicks. The feature is available in the Emails section of our outstanding Hepsia Control Panel and all you need to enable it is to choose one of your domains from a drop-down list and type in the hostnames plus the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the mail servers that will be approved to send emails from your email addresses. As an added option you can even restrict the email messages to be sent from your domain name only if it has our MX records, i.e. when our servers manage the email addresses for it, not a third-party provider. This feature offers you the best level of protection, but it is not applicable if only your site is on our servers while the email addresses for the domain name are managed somewhere else. In either case, the SPF protection service will keep your emails protected from being used for spam and/or scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to take advantage of the SPF protection feature as part of the standard collection of services that you will have using this type of website hosting. Activating the protection involves just several simple steps inside the Hepsia Control Panel, thus even when you have never used this type of feature before, you will not have any kind of troubles. Through a really easy-to-navigate interface, you will just have to type in the details of the mail server which will be permitted to send messages from your addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). Once the newly made record propagates, nobody will be able to forge any email for that particular domain and send out e-mail messages from a server other than the one you have typed in. This doesn't necessarily have to be our mail server, however when we take care of your emails, you can activate an additional level of protection by selecting an option that emails can be send out from addresses @your-domain.com only if the domain employs our MX records. Our tech support crew will be able to help you 24/7 if you have any kind of questions about this service.
